This carbine is chambered in 450 Bushmaster.
This platform is built on a 16" carbine gas mod HBAR Profile (416R SS) barrel with a 11/16X24thread pitch.
Our 16" Direct Impingement Carbine Rifle run a car gas system to increase reliability.
All of our Bolt Carriers go through a R.E.M Polish process prior to nitride coating. The R.E.M Polish process reduces friction, improves part durability, improves oil retention, and improves contact & bending fatigue. Our Bolts are MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspected) and coated in a durable nitride finish.
The SPR-16 Carbine Rifle runs our TYPE-A SPR/15 GEN3 MLOK Handguard which allows the shooter a shorter platform.
The 450 Bushmaster round has grown immensely in popularity due to some state and local laws allowing straight wall cartridges for hunting in the shotgun zones. Please check with your local and state regulations.
This rifle runs our TYPE-A PMC Two-Stage Trigger. Constructed from pre-hardened 4140 this trigger is coated in Nickel Teflon to fight against friction and to ensure lubricity. The PMC Two-Stage Trigger ships at 1 1/2 reset to 3 1/2 trigger pull.

We had two things in mind when it came to redesigning the SPR GEN3 Platform; weight reduction and functionality.  Our first improvement started with functionality on the lower receiver components.  We moved away from standard mil-spec components, upgrading to a ambi billet adjustable 90°/45° short throw fire selector, extended billet magazine release, improved pivot/breakdown pins, and most importantly stainless steel detents/springs/roll pins/trigger pins/etc.  Our second functionality improvement came from the upper receiver and since we were on a mission to make this rifle semi ambidextrous, we decided to upgrade to an ambi charging handle.  The next upgrade came in the form of weight reduction on the front end.  We made some weight improvements on our all new GEN3 SPR/15 handguard by opening up the offsets to accept M-LOK attachments and off-setting an optional 45° QD M-LOK insert towards the backend of the handguard.  The last upgrade was to improve the overall gas flow by making improvements to our gas management system from front to back.

This TYPE-A SPR-16 450 is built on an accurate Carbine platform with proven mil-spec components to make it an incredibly versatile rifle. The SPR-16 450 Carbine Rifle is equipped with a heavy Mod HBAR 16″ 416R Stainless Steel barrel (for improved accuracy) and a full 15″ free float rail (M-LOK – GEN3) with a Silencerco ASR muzzle brake to mitigate muzzle rise. Fully furnished with Magpul furniture, optic ready, and equipped with a 5 round capacity magazine.  The TYPE-A SPR-16 450 Carbine Rifles is driven by our TYPE-A QPQ coated bolt carrier group w/R.E.M. Polish.  It’s also equipped with our improved TYPE-A PMC Straight 2-stage trigger to give it consistent reliability time after time.

NOTE:  All of our rifles are Hardcoat Anodized and then Cerakoted to give you a longer lasting more durable finish.  We wanted your rifle to wear to the anodized surface vs. the raw aluminum surface like some of our competitors.  Just another added benefit making our rifles…TYPE-A.

This 450 is a phenomenal rifle which I can’t wait to hunt with for the first time. I picked mine up earlier this month (7/2016) at the recommendation of my local gun-shop and I am so thrilled to have been introduced to BG Defense’s line of rifles.

    What’s awesome about this rifle:
    1. Look and Feel: my 450 is built to last and the quality is apparent across the board.
    2. Firing: This weapon is incredibly accurate and the kick is very well managed considering the stopping power it delivers.
    3. Value: From an empirical value stand point this rifle is best in class with all of the features, accessories & furniture it comes with in the box. From a pride in ownership and perceived value, I believe this gun is off the charts even when compared to a built yourself AR type 450.
    4. I can fire my 450 below the Michigan rifle line!

Overall, I highly recommend anyone looking for an AR style hunting rifle which will meet/exceed their needs for North American big game take a look at this rifle. It’s quality and capability will make it an obviously apparent pack-leader.

Awesome rifle! For the price it can’t be beat!

Outstanding rifle and customer service. This is my second BG rifle and I couldn’t be happier. It is apparent from handling this rifle that these guys have an affinity for quality and tight tolerances. The cycling is smooth and there is very minimal play between the upper/lower receivers. I could on for pages about the trigger group alone. For brevity’s sake I just want to outline some findings on my initial outing with this 450.

Cycling: Ran this gun right out of the box and NO issues feeding/ejecting rounds. Smooth operation.

Fit/Finish: As stated before, the lockup between upper/lower receiver is great. Nice lines and smooth finish on everything. Top rails (upper receiver/fore-end) line up tight and perfectly. Even the phosphate coating on the BCG is smooth compared to other, cheaper, phosphate BCGs. These guys give great attention to detail.

Trigger Group: BG uses a proprietary 2-stage trigger system. I am a huge Geissele fan and this trigger feels just like a Geissele SSA. The straight trigger shoe is a nice feature and increases the sweet spot. It breaks clean at about 3.5lbs.

Performance: A Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x was mounted on this beast with the intention of carrying it in the tree stand this fall. Hornady 250gr FTX was all I could find on the shelves to test. I finished this range session with a 5 shot group that measured just under 1.5″ with all rounds touching. This was awesome considering it was shot with only 6x scope capability……and I’m usually a crappy bench shooter. Average chrono reading at the muzzle was 2050fps. The felt recoil was very soft and seemed close to a breach-loaded 44mag. I’m sure their buffer combined with the proprietary muzzle brake plays a big role in recoil reduction. The muzzle brake is pretty slick too. Not too large or gaudy, but definitely does it’s job.

Customer Service: I can’t say enough about how great these guys are to work with. Professional, personable, and friendly. If you call, they take the time to answer any questions you have. They’re ALWAYS quick and responsive when emailing with questions. I haven’t had any issues with either of my SIPRs….but if I did, I get the impression they would do just about anything to make it right.

Overall, this is a great rifle and if you’re in the market for a 450BM this is the one to buy. The fit/finish/performance of this SIPR make it worth well more than it’s listed price. Combine that with excellent customer service and I think you have one of the best production 450’s on the market today.

Training – Dryfire

"Learning how to operate your rifle doesn’t need to be a costly nor a time consuming endeavor.  Live-fire range time is important. But if you do not have a surplus of time or reasonable access to a range, you can train about 75% of what you need in your own home.  Throw some dots/tape marks up on wall and get moving.  You can work on stance, grip, movement and transitions with only limited space.  Reloads are always time well spent and be sure to work both bolt lock and sustained reloads.  Working on multiple targets and learning how to drive your gun to see/acquire multiple targets are skills that needs constant attention.  So if you happen to have 10 extra minutes in your day, grab your rifle and a couple empty mags and go do work."
