Description
When Colt incorporated the M16A2 improvements into its carbines, the company created the “M16A2 Carbine” family. This family was mostly known for its most praised model, called the Model 723. The Colt 723 combined the simpler A1 rear sight with an A2-era case deflector as well as s 1:7 twist barrel. It kept a lightweight 14.5″ barrel for balance and speed, which is why operators loved the 723 for CQB and urban fighting.
According to Larry Vickers, his Delta Force 723 went to Panama’s Cárcel Modelo prison during Operation Acid Gambit in 1989, and later on Desert Storm SCUD-hunt missions in 1991. A real-world endorsement that echoed across SOF. Vickers’ account also links these carbines—and their early red-dot use—to the Army’s eventual M4 + Aimpoint M68 standardization. Operation Acid Gambit context: a Delta hostage-rescue at Panama City’s Modelo Prison on Dec 20, 1989, during the U.S. invasion
.By 1993, Delta operators in Operation Gothic Serpent (the “Black Hawk Down” battle) carried 723-based carbines, while many Rangers ran full-length M16A2s (and some 727s). Visual tell: A1 rear sight (723) vs A2 “drum” rear sight (727).
This TYPE-A 723 is built on an accurate Carbine platform with proven mil-spec components to make an incredibly versatile rifle. The 723 is equipped with a 14.5 5R, 4150V chrome moly vanadium barrel finished in a clean Nitride with an A2 Bird Cage Flash Hider that is pinned and welded. Our 723 is also equipped with an A2 Clamshell & CAR-15 style furniture. The TYPE-A 723 Rifle is driven by our TYPE-A QPQ bolt carrier group with an R.E.M. Polish. Equipped with a DGI (direct gas impingement) system and our crisp Mil-Spec Trigger to give it consistent reliability time after time.
NOTE: All of our rifles are Hardcoat Anodized and then Cerakoted to give you a longer lasting more durable finish. We wanted your rifle to wear to the anodized surface versus the raw aluminum surface like some of our competitors. Just another added benefit of making our rifles…TYPE-A.
